How to prepare

Taking your dog for their first photoshoot? FUN! Here are a few things you should expect and how you can prepare to make the session productive and FUN!

I’m Danielle a professional pet photographer and want to share a few ways you can prepare you and your pet for their portrait session.

  1. Don’t feed your dog any food or snacks prior to the photoshoot. This is SUPER important to make your dog(s) more food motivated for their session. They will have lots of treats during their session so we want to make sure they’re hungry for them!

  2. Bring a water bowl, lots of water, and a towel. Your dog will need access to fresh water since they will be eating treats and playing during their session. A towel is a good idea since your dog may get wet and/or sandy.

  3. Relax. Your dog is not misbehaving and DO NOT apologize for them not sitting still for the perfect photo. Dog’s get excited being in a new place so extra excitement is expected. I want your dogs to be silly and show their real personality that you love so much. If they’re more excited than you’re used to don’t worry this is what I do, I gotchu.

Bonus tip: the weeks leading up to your dog’s portrait session take them to a park and practice being calm. Sit down and reward your dog when they sit or lay down on their own. This can be a huge help during your session, but takes a little more planning :)

If this seems like a lot to remember, don’t worry! I send a reminder guide and checklist a few days before the session so you can be ready for your dog’s big day.

If you ever have any questions you can always send me an email <3
